January 2025 pdf
Dear Parent/Guardian,
Happy new year!
As we commence the new term, we again ask that you take time to review all of our policies which can be found on our website at this link. There is also a summarised version of the main policies in your child’s journal.
- Commencing Monday 13th January 2025, students not in the correct school uniform will be sent home. This includes wearing PE uniform on a non PE day.
We request that parents do not give notes to their child exempting them from wearing any part of their uniform. If you are experiencing specific challenges with school uniform, please contact the relevant tutor.
Students are not permitted to wear non-school jackets in the school building. Non-school jackets will be confiscated.
School uniform helps us to ensure that all students belong. School uniform can be purchased at this link. Please let us know if there are any challenges sourcing items of uniform.
It is important that all students are in full uniform at all times. The following are the main items not being worn correctly:
- Black polishable shoes (not runners/no logos)
- School jacket
- Tie
- GCC PE T-Shirt
(See pages 28 and 29 of the journal)
- For Health and Safety reasons students must not wear facial piercings of any form. Jewellery should be limited to one small stud in each ear and chains should not be worn (See page 32 of the journal).
- Being on time every day.
- Students arriving late must always sign in at reception as failure to do this results in parents receiving text messages indicating that the student is absent.
Please note that signing in late is your child’s responsibility.
- Remember school starts at 8:08. Tutorial time is key to setting students up for the day and gives them the opportunity to have a chat about anything that might be a burning concern at any given moment in time.
- Being late to school or class causes disruption for all students and breaks the flow of learning. Please encourage your child to move between classes throughout the day, doing so without unnecessary delays. Students can do this by arriving in the morning with enough time to go to lockers, organise books for the day and by using the toilet prior to tutorial, if needed.
- As outlined in the journal, detention for lateness may occur as a result of 3 or more occasions where a student has arrived late within the half term.
- We will be continuing to roll out our rewards system this term. Students with good attendance, punctuality and behaviour will have the opportunity to win some of our bumper edelmorrow@griffencc.ieprizes.
- Safety and visibility:
- Crossing roads - looking at phone is extremely dangerous
- Cycling using hi-vis/bright lights on bike as well as a helmet.
- Crossing at non pedestrian points on the road
To ensure that your child continues to experience the best of their education while they are a student in Griffeen CC, it is important that you, as parent, support us and your child as we implement the schools Code of Behaviour and Uniform Policy, as well as all other school policies. These policies provide us all with a system within which school becomes an enjoyable place each and every day.
Finally, we need to be in contact with all parents at all times. If any of your contact details have changed, please email info@griffeencc.ie with the correct information (phone number, email and home address). If you cannot access your Parental (android) VSware account, or (apple) VSware account please let us know and we will send personalised log in details via SMS.
Yours faithfully,
Noel Kelly
Principal
