Dear Parent/Guardian,

As we commence the second term, we hope your child has settled back into the academic year ’24-25.

The first term was busy, and we have shared many great moments within our school community. Share in some of these moments on our social media on X Facebook Instagram or our Website

We would now like to take this opportunity to call to mind some of the ways used to support all of our students and to ensure that they are getting the best experience possible while in GCC.

We ask that you help us with this objective by taking time to review all of our policies which can be found on our website at this link, as well as in summarised version in your child’s journal.

A few items in particular that we would like to draw attention to, that are currently significant, include:

  1. Being on time every day.
    • Remember school starts at 8:08. Tutorial time is key to setting students up for the day and gives them the opportunity to have a chat about anything that might be a burning concern at any given moment in time.
    • Being late to school or class causes disruption for all students and breaks the flow of learning. Please encourage your child to move between classes without unnecessary delays. They can do this by arriving in the morning with enough time to go to lockers, organise books for the day and by using the toilet prior to tutorial if needed.
  2. As outlined in the journal, detention for lateness may occur as a result of 3 or more occasions where a student has arrived late within the half term.
  3. We will also be rewarding students for good attendance similar to (and maybe even better than!) those implemented last year.
  4. School uniform helps us to ensure that all students belong. School uniform can be purchased at this link. Please let us know if there are any challenges sourcing items of uniform. It is important that all students are in full uniform at all times. This includes:
    • Black polishable shoes (not runners/no logos)
    • School jacket
    • Tie (See pages 28 and 29 of the journal).
    • GCC PE T-Shirt
  5. For Health and Safety reasons students must not wear facial piercings of any form. Jewellery should be limited to one small stud in each ear and chains should not be worn (See page 32 of the journal).
  6. Daylight will be limited over the coming months – please discuss safety and visibility with your child:
    • While crossing roads - looking at phone
    • Cycling using hi-vis/bright lights on bike
    • Crossing at non pedestrian points on the road

Finally, we need to be in contact with all parents at all times. If any of your contact details have changed, please email info@griffeencc.ie with the correct information (phone number, email and home address). If you cannot access your Parental (android) VSware account, or (apple) VSware account please let us know and we will send personalised log in details via SMS.

Yours faithfully,

Noel Kelly
